Earning bitcoin can be a pretty difficult task for a new user. Learning all of the lingo and what it means is tricky enough but when you introduce complex concepts like the Lightning Network it can take a while to fully grasp. Not to worry though, with little to no understanding of Bitcoin, it’s actually incredibly easy for anyone to be earning bitcoin with Tippin.Me in no time.

Before we fully dive into this case study, please take a moment to read my disclaimer and disclosure. It goes into detail on how none of this is financial advice and that bitcoin is risky. It also covers how I generate revenue with the use of affiliate links and a single banner ad on each study.

Here’s what the ad looks like.

Now it’s time to get back to learning about earning bitcoin with Tippin.Me!

What Is Tippin.Me?

Tippin.Me is a micropayment platform for sending tiny amounts of bitcoin using the Lightning Network.

Case Study Parameters

I will use Tippin.Me to accept bitcoin tips via the Lightning Network for as long as the service remains online. This case study will never end. I will keep this content live forever and every single tip that I receive via Tippin.Me will eventually get added to this study. The more tips I receive, the more data I will have for this study and my readers.

Infographic: Earning Bitcoin with Tippin.Me

None of my studies are complete without an infographic to save you from having to read through a wall of text. For this infographic, all I am doing is adding my monthly tips to a chart to show how many sats I have stacked. I also include how many tips I send as well as any on-chain withdrawals that I make.

Earning Bitcoin with Tippin.Me

There is only one single way that you can earn bitcoin with Tippin.Me and that is simply by accepting tips either through your profile page or with your embeddable tips button. Here’s how I have been doing with both of these so far.

Receiving Tips

As far as I can tell, there are only 2 ways that you can receive tips with Tippin.Me.

You can share a link to your Tippin.Me page like this…

https://tippin.me/@Jon_Hodl

…or by embedding a tipping button on your website (if you have one) so that your readers are able to click it to generate a quick QR code.

Here is what my Tippin.Me button looks like.

Using your profile page link to receive tips is probably the best option for accepting bitcoin on social media channels, in emails, and in Youtube video descriptions while your embed button is clearly the better choice for receiving tips directly on a website.

If you would like to help me with some more data for this study, sending even a single sat not only brings me one step closer to working on bitcoin projects full-time but it also shows the power of the lightning network for sending and receiving bitcoin micropayments.

Sending Tips

What goes around, comes around. Since others have been generous enough to show their love for my content with some sats, I make sure that I pass some of that along to other content creators who have helped me.

With the release of Strike.Me from Zap In, there is now more reason than ever to use the Lightning Network to send bitcoin. In the not so distant future, I will be doing a study on Strike.Me and sending tips to Tippin.Me users is absolutely going to be part of it.

On-Chain Withdrawals

None of my studies would be complete without at least one on-chain withdrawal to an address that I am in control of or at least to an address that I am somehow associated with. For this study, I will forever accept LN tips via Tippin.Me and occasionally make a withdrawal to addresses on-chain.

July Withdrawals: 0 sats

In July of 2020, I didn’t receive enough tips to pay the miner fee for any on-chain payments so I never actually made any withdrawals. I am hoping that after this study has been live for at least a few months, I will have plenty of sats to pay multiple miner fees.

Things To Consider

I normally like to let my readers know of any of the potential risks involved with using a service but since Tippin.Me is just a service that enables you to accept bitcoin tips online, there isn’t a lot that can go wrong. As I use the service more, I am sure that I will find things that I will want my readers to be aware of.

Tippin.Me Is Custodial

With Tippin.Me, you don’t need to set up or fund payment channels or run your own full node. They do all of that work for you. They manage their channels and custody your tips until you decide to pass them along to other Tippin.Me users or make an on-chain withdrawal. It’s a pretty sweet little tool that I really look forward to using in the coming years.

Conclusion

If you produce any sort of value online and you want to earn more bitcoin, give Tippin.Me a try. It is free to join and use and it enables anyone to accept LN bitcoin payments in less than a couple of minutes. You can embed a payment button on your site or you can just link to your own Tippin.Me page via social media, emails, or even text messages.

There probably isn’t a better way to begin accepting bitcoin micropayments with such little effort and know-how. I highly recommend that you give it a try and see what happens.
